“Weiner is a spellbinding storyteller and her fascinating tale is utterly bewitching.”

Writer-performer Wendy Weiner grew up near a popular California tourist attraction: the Winchester Mystery House. In the 1880s, Sarah Winchester, the widowed heiress to the rifle fortune, built this 160-room mansion renowned for its bizarre features, including stairs that lead to a ceiling and a second-floor door that opens onto thin air.
As a child, Wendy loved this house and the story of the eccentric woman behind it; as an adult, she would come to find Sarah's story intersecting and informing her own in unexpected ways.
With a structure that reflects the maze-like home, Mystery House masterfully weaves together seemingly disparate stories: the legend of Sarah Winchester; Wendy's absurd experiences as a female writer in Hollywood; and the way her world shattered when her father was diagnosed with cancer. A comedic and poignant meditation on grief, love, and empowerment, with a touch of American history.
Wanting to create an intimate and accessible theater experience, Wendy wrote Mystery House to be performed in private homes and alternative spaces. The 2023 production of Mystery House, directed by Ryan Amador, was performed in residences in Los Angeles and New York, and had an acclaimed, month-long run in a theater at the top of a turret at Scotland's Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
